FSN FCIAC Boys Basketball Coaches Poll (Week 2): RIDGEFIELD is No. 1

The FCIAC boys basketball regular season begins to wind down this week with many teams still pushing for playoff seeding. Although all 17 teams qualify for this year's playoff, only the top 8 will host games in the round of 16, so seeding will definitely be on the minds of many teams these next two weeks.

Once again, Ridgefield remains the number one team in the league, but it's clear that the list of challengers for the Tigers is growing by the week. Multiple ties (For 2nd and 8th place) had to be broken, which made for some interesting rankings.

Week 3 Preview

Tuesday
Game of the Day - #2 Staples vs. #3 New Canaan: Two teams that received first place votes will do battle to start out the week. Winner will likely either stay or move up to the No. 2 spot in next week's poll.

Curious About - #7 Norwalk vs. #5 Wilton: The bears broke .500 last week against four tough opponents, and look to get a big win to start the week against a Wilton team still relevant in the playoff picture this season.

Wednesday
Game of the Day - #3 New Canaan vs. #1 Ridgefield: The Tigers face a challenger to their top spot for the first time this season while New Canaan tries to prove themselves to be the top team in the league.

Curious About - #5 Wilton vs. #6 Darien: Another tough test for the Warriors against a Darien team still looking for a signature win. The Blue Wave made a big jump into the No. 6 ranking this week, after being previously unranked.

Friday
Game of the Day - #3 New Canaan vs. #5 Wilton: Back end of a crucial three game week for the Warriors, who look to take down another top 8 opponent. New Canaan also has three critical matchups, culminating with a scrappy Warrior squad looking for a win.

Curious About - #1 Ridgefield vs. #6 Darien: Nobody expects the Blue Wave to put up much of a fight, but if they can keep it close, Darien might be able to gain even more ground in the league standings.

FSN Girls Basketball Coaches Poll (Week 2): RIDGEFIELD is No. 1

The FCIAC girls basketball regular season begins to wind down this week with many teams still pushing for playoff seeding. Although all 17 teams qualify for this year's playoff, only the top 8 will host games in the round of 16, so seeding will definitely be on the minds of many teams these next two weeks.

For the second week in a row, Ridgefield remains the number one team in the league, but this week was such different than last. After remaining undefeated with wins over Ludlowe and Trumbull, Staples was able to tie Ridgefield in points, with 44. Ridgefield only remains number one because they received more first place votes (6) than the Wreckers.

Trumbull (Barely) hangs on to remain number 3, despite getting the majority of 4th place votes. Ludlowe, who rebounded from a tough loss against Staples over the weekend against St.Joseph, remains 4th. St.Joseph is now 5th despite their loss this weekend, but a consensus has not been reached on the Cadets just yet. St.Joseph was ranked as high as 3rd and as now as 7th, so look out for them to potentially solidify their ranking after this week. After a rough start, Danbury has begun to claw their way back into the playoff picture, now at 2-3 and ranked 6th this week. Stamford is now 7th, despite a 6-1 record that is not likely to get much worse by the end of the season. New Canaan is once again ranked 8th, receiving two voted for 7th and one for the final spot. Warde (3), Westhill (1) and Darien (1) all received votes, but not enough to move into the top 8.

Week 3 Preview

Tuesday
Game of the Day - Darien vs. #7 Stamford: The black knights have won 6 of 7 to start the season, but a relatively light schedule has given them few chances to prove themselves to the conference (Hence the No. 7 ranking). Darien received votes for the first time this week after a win last weekend against New Canaan.

Curious About - #8 New Canaan vs. #2 Staples: The wreckers, coming off a huge week feat. wins over #3 Trumbull and #4 Ludlowe, look to stave off a pesky New Canaan squad that is No. 8 for the second week in a row.

Wednesday
Game of the Day - #1 Ridgefield vs. #8 New Canaan: The Tigers were a much less consensus No. 1 pick this week, and they will look to create more space between them and the rest of the conference against a New Canaan team looking to pull off a major upset.

Curious About - Westhill vs. Greenwich: A young Cardinals squad has struggles out of the gate after a trip to the FCIAC semifinals one year ago. Westhill received votes for the second straight week, but couldn't get enough to move in to the top 8.

Friday
Game of the Day - #7 Stamford vs. #2 Staples: Two major threats lie between the Wreckers and an undefeated season, one of them being 6-1 Stamford. The Black Knights have yet another chance to prove themselves to the league while Staples continues to make a push to be the top team in the conference.

Curious About - Westhill vs. #4 Ludlowe: The Falcons won't face much competition between now and the end of the regular season, but Westhill could put up a challenge and potentially pull off an upset on their home court.
